Preserving Access to Meadow Vista's Trails

Hundreds of residents use the Bear River Canal trails every week. We're working with property owners, county officials, and the community to reopen closed trails and protect the foothills lifestyle we all love.

Wait, What Trails Are Closed?

The Bear River Canal trail system has been part of Meadow Vista community life since the 1940s. It stretches from Crother Road (below the Waldorf school) to Placer Hills Road near the Winchester entrance.

Recently, property owners installed gate sets that block access between Meadow Gate and Placer Hills Road — cutting off a beloved stretch of trail that residents have walked, jogged, and ridden for generations.

Why Do the Trails Matter?

Trail access isn't just about recreation — it supports physical and mental health, builds social connection, and makes Meadow Vista the kind of community people choose to live in.

Research consistently shows that access to trails improves health outcomes, increases property values, and provides safe outdoor recreation for people of all ages. These trails are part of what makes our community special.
